Races Galore!

I am going out with a bang in 2018!  I have signed up for a LOT of races in the next 3 months - both to promote my new business and to get myself in shape.  Hopefully I'm still able to walk when the ball drops at midnight.  Plus I already have some races on my 2019 calendar too!

So...if you need me, check out the local park, gym treadmill, or catch me at one of the races :)

1 year later

Wow, what a difference a year makes.  We are living in Austin, TX which makes my head, heart, and soul happy.  No more surprise drop-ins, no more 8 months of rainy and grey weather, and a ton less stress.  There are so many other perks that will keep for another day.

It was 70 and sunny today.  I worked, we planted some flowers and shrubs, and I got a run in.  I also was fortunate enough to speak to some kids about my career.  Nothing makes me happier than sharing I am a software engineer with the next generation.  #ladyengineersrock :)

Batting 1.000

So life has been a little...chaotic lately.  Work has been unsettling, my health has been in the tank, and we are just crazy busy around here.  March is shaping up to be a monster - some good times and some...  It's supposed to be all about March Madness however I'm fairly certain I'm barely going to be able to watch any games this year.  We have uninvited family showing up, friends coming in for basketball games, family coming in for "spring break", and a shower in Austin.  Basically every single weekend of the NCAA tournament has people in our home (or we are away from home).

I am starting a new streak.  I am 1/1 in March - batting 1,000!  Here's to new streaks and better times...

SW23

Serena Williams added major championship trophy number 23 to her case.  She now has the most major final championships in the Open era.  She is only one short of matching the all time record of 24, held by Margaret Court.  Serena won her record breaking trophy against her older sister, Venus in straight sets, 6-4. 6-4.  This Australian Open has been amazing; so many wonderful stories and some fantastic tennis.  I can't wait for the Federer/Nadal final!

On a personal note, this was a tough week for me.  Work has been particularly stressful and requiring a lot of hours.  I broke my daily run streak yesterday but started another one today.

NFL Conference Championship Round

Sadly the NFL games weren't really competitive.  The Super Bowl will pit the New England Patriots against the Atlanta Falcons.  Matt Ryan, quarterback for ATL, is playing at an extremely high level.  If he doesn't get the NFL MVP it will be a travesty.  I hope SB51 is a good, well contested game.  We'll see in two weeks.

Meanwhile I have been working all weekend - yuck!  Hopefully I'll get some time off soon.  I did manage to keep my workout streak alive, so that is something!

Workout data - Sunday:

  • 640 calories burned
  • 50 minutes spent moving my bottom
  • 10,462 steps taken
  • 5.26 miles covered

Thank you!

The end is nigh and, I for one, wish I could extend my thanks to President Obama.  He may not have accomplished everything he hoped for eight years ago however his presidency was largely successful.  Our economy has recovered, unemployment is is lower than it has been in decades, and he set an example for all of us to follow.  He is a caring, sincere, eloquent, and good man.  We could all hope comport ourselves as well as he has under the extreme pressure of the leader of our nation.  He was under fire from the moment he was elected until the very last hours.  Time will tell us what his lasting legacy will be but I have all the information I need.  Thank you, President Obama.  Thank you for leading with dignity, class, and restraint.  Thank you for setting an example of how marriage and family life can be balanced and loving even while holding down a demanding and stressful career.  Just thank you for being you.

Speaking of work, back to mine...

Rackets Down Under

Aussie Open 2017 is under way - second round ends today (well, technically it is already tomorrow there) with some big names in action.  Djokovic, Serena, and Nadal all play their second round matches tonight.  In fact, Djoker is in the third set of his match live as I type.  Istomin is giving him a run for his money, pushing the three hour mark already with it knotted up at two sets a piece.  Exciting stuff!  After attending the US Open in 2014 I have become a fairly big tennis fan.  If you like sports and you haven't watched a Grand Slam final, you should make it a point.  Even the early round matches can be quite entertaining.
